After taking the seniors to the 2018 prelim final in his first year with the club, Brendan Allen is back in charge in 2019 with a new look coaching squad. Luc Matthews moves up to coach the Development team, Dave Bartlett continues in his role as the senior assistant defensive coach, and newly appointed U19 Coach, Paul Harte, will be the forward’s line coach.

SENIOR HEAD COACH
Following a distinguished football career in the Country, Amatuers and Southern League, Brendan commenced his coaching career in the Southern League with Murumbeena and Canterbury Football Clubs. For 6 years Brendan was involved at VFL level with the AFL aligned Sandringham, where he was the Senior Assistant Coach and midfield coach for the past 4 years.
Brendan lives in Kew, is married to Naomi, and has 4 children. During the week, Brendan runs his own construction business, Maverick Constructions.

HEAD DEVELOPMENT COACH
Luc played his junior football at Vermont, moving into the seniors winning 2 u18’s premierships and 3 reserves premierships including 15+ senior games. Moved to the BFC in 2000, played in the 2002 div2 premiership and played over 150 games. Was given the vice captaincy of BFC for 3 years and was honoured to captain the club for 3 years along side my great mate Chris Wilson. Played 2 seasons as playing assistant coach at Upwey football club winning the senior premiership in my first year.
Luc is a single father to a very energetic 8 year old girl, and is a bricklayer during the week.
Paul’s football career began playing with the East Doncaster Junior Football Club. From here he then proceeded to play at Fitzroy in the U19s which he captained in his top age year. He then played a number of games with the Fitzroy reserves. Paul then moved on to play in the VFA, with Preston (now the Northern Blues), before an early retirement.
Paul has a background as a P.E teacher, which has been of great value, since taking up a variety of coaching roles, beginning in 2008. He has been primarily involved at Blackburn, coaching from U’9s through to U19’s, having a number of very successful years, during this time. Paul also has experience as an assistant coach in the EFL Interleague and recently he had a 3 year stint with Eastern Ranges in the TAC competition, as a forward and defensive line coach. During this time, Paul had the opportunity to help develop young talent moving into the AFL ranks, including our own Ryley Stoddart and Xavier O’Neill.
Paul has lived in Blackburn for 25years and has two boys, who have both played all of their junior and senior football at Blackburn.

Dave’s playing days cover juniors with the Glen Waverley Hawks, representing the VIC Metro side, and playing U19s with South Melbourne/Sydney Swans. He then went on to play AFL Reserve grade footy with the Sydney Swans and Richmond.
For the past 6 years, Dave has been heavily involved with the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup. During this time Dave has coached and developed lasting relationships with a number of current young AFL stars including Tom Liberatore, Mitch Wallis and Brandon Ellis. In 2016 Dave did some development work with the Western Bulldogs under Luke Beveridge. Dave is currently involved with the AFL Women’s State Academy as an assistant coach.
Dave is a detective with Victoria Police with 30 years experience. Currently involved with major crime investigations. He is a single father with 2 adult kids. In the off season Dave loves to get away to Bali where he has a villa and enjoys the warm weather, relaxation and experiencing the different culture.

Ash has lived in the eastern suburbs all his life, growing up in Doncaster before moving to Blackburn some 22years ago where he is currently living with wife Rochelle and three daughters Montana, Charli and Kyah.
Playing football as a junior from the age of 7 years right through to senior footy level where he played briefly at Doncaster before moving to Templestowe football club for approximately 12 years, with a stint of country footy in this period in the West Gippsland Football Netball League. Following his daughters in their netball journeys and enjoying just about any sport is time well spent, Especially suburban footy and particularly the Burners
Ash runs a small plumbing business based in Blackburn since 1996, servicing blackburn and surrounds since this time employing and training a number of young apprentices during this period. Ash has spent many years watching the Blackburn Football Club and becoming a member approximately 4 years and has really enjoyed the opportunity to become more engaged in the local community and the Blackburn Football Club.

KEN “FIREY” EDWARDS
Ken “Firey” Edwards played over 100 games of footy with St. Marys FC in Glen Iris in the A grade churches comp. Soon after retiring, “Firey” started his trainer career with the Hawks (21 years) and went on to become their assistant head trainer, with a highlight being picked to go to Ireland in 2000 with the AFL side. “Firey” then spent 8 years at Mitcham as head trainer, before being poached by Garry Connolly to cross over to Blackburn as head trainer in 2010.
Firey worked for the MFB for over 40 years, and was given his nickname by the infamous Hawthorn head trainer, Bobby Yeomans, over 35 years ago. Married for over 40 years to Susan, “Firey” is the proud father of 2 and grandfather of 2.
