SENIOR WOMEN
Welcome Jules Hay
Women’s Program Head Coach
Hi All,
What an exciting time to be a part of the women’s footy program at BFC!
We’ve kicked off our pre-Christmas training block at the state of the art facilities at Monash University. Currently we’re training Mon’s and Wed’s, from 7.30-9pm. We are getting some great numbers with approximately 80% of players already having attended. Considering the lockdown, we’re looking pretty strong too!
Our program will look and feel at little different this year, with our key strategic goals centred around making our footy program inclusive to all. Our program currently has a wide range of skills and abilities, stretching across our 3 teams. What makes our program great is our diversity, with a number of VFLW representatives, NAB League players, returning seniors and our over 35’s masters players. We are currently still recruiting across all teams, so please let us know if you know anyone, we’d love to welcome them down at Monash oval.
This season, our players have chosen 5 values that will drive our behaviour as representatives of BFC. They are: Inclusiveness, Passion, Commitment, Development and Positivity. It is clear to see already these values driving our behaviour, with excellent attendance at trainings, a sense of looking after others (we now welcome 3 deaf/hearing impaired players to our squad) and a real passion for learning and developing our football skills and knowledge.
In 2022, we will continue to build upon the foundations of the women’s program as we enter into our 5th season. We are establishing a strong connection with our U18’s team, inviting them along to our pre-season training and also our Monday night’s in-season training sessions. We are also fortunate to have Rob (their coach) come and work alongside us with our seniors training. We’re continuing to talent identify any seniors players and recommend them to VFLW clubs, working in conjunction with elite pathways coaches. Already several players are either on VFLW lists, or currently under selection consideration, which is really exciting for our program pathway. In addition, we have a connection with our NAB league player’s coaches, working collaboratively, to provide our seniors with a supportive community program to compliment their professional football.
We have also already had 2 educational webinars and are about to have our third next Tuesday. We are linking in with the AFLW and VFLW coaches to hear from them on specific topics. In addition to our physical practices each week, these online educational forums continue to enhance our players knowledge of the game. We also record and share these sessions, so they can be passed on to our junior girls program, developing the next generation of women.
All in all, it’s been a very busy start to the pre-season for us, but all worth it when we see the player’s huge smiles at the end of each training session. In 2022, we might have 3 teams, but we’re one club and by providing an inclusive environment we aim for every player to develop a strong sense of belonging to the red and black.
