WHY JOIN US

YOU WILL BE PROUD TO CALL US YOUR SECOND FAMILY.

Community footy means different things to everyone. To us in the women’s program at Blackburn Football Club (BFC) it means new and tight friendships, many laughs, a chance to try new things and a family where everyone is included.

In 2024 we are working hard to field 3 teams.

THE COMPETITIVE TEAM

A common theme in the player reviews at the end of 2023 was the belief that this team could make finals, and potentially take the Div 2 flag in 2024. There was a lot of requests to be supported with fitness programs over summer and these are well under way (thanks Luke.)

We expect this team to be filled with returning Div 2 players, Under 18s graduating to seniors and experienced players seeking a welcoming new home club. The expectation is that players in this team will commit to 2 trainings per week.

THE INCLUSIVE TEAM

Inclusion is a big theme for us. This new team is about giving every woman who wants to play football the chance to join a local team.

We expect this team to be populated with 2 groups.

Players with some experience and busy lives who may only be able to attend 1 training per week at Morton Park. They still want to play and play to win, but without the pressure of being picked every week in a division 2 team.  It will include players returning from injury on a pathway back to our Div 2 team.

Secondly, we welcome everyone new to football. Reality is very few women over 16 have had much of a chance to learn this game and play it as a chosen sport. This is a safe and welcoming place to learn the skills needed and try something different. Footy makes fitness fun. Cross coders get onboard!

THE MASTERS TEAM

The EFNL (the league we compete in) has 5 clubs fielding women’s teams for over 35s. Making it the largest of any league for this category.

In 2023 with no less than 7 players new to footy in 2023 our Masters’ team delivered an inspiring performance in their Grand Final.

Masters’ games run a bit differently. Firstly, they are only fortnightly which is great for those whose body needs extra recovery time. Secondly only a Bear Hug Tackle is allowed. (Affectionately called Catch n Release it means less risk of injury.)

Almost no women over 35 have had any real opportunity to play football. So we surround you with lots of patient coaches, fun and friendship while you get the hang of it.  This includes Dave who was voted Whitehorse City Council Coach of the Year 2023 because of his support of older women learning to play football.

ALL TEAMS

All new players are welcome to train over summer or for several sessions before committing. Get to know us and experience how supportive our players and coaches are. Our history affirms that we live our values of inclusion, and we make it work for players at all skills levels and ages.
