Round 2 Women's Review
Panthers Persevere
Panthers as a genus are undaunted by the wet or the unknown. This is handy when facing Beaconsfield, a new entrant to EFNL this year on a soggy ground struggling to drain off 30mm of rain. Burners showed their tenacity. They showed that if you hold your head high and keep pushing you can walk away with things to be proud of.
Head Coach Jules Hay encouraged players by noting their strengths as “more player versatility shown again as we rotated into new positions. Plus, a willingness to learn and continue to ask questions.” She also highlighted their “Positivity when down significantly on the scoreboard – heads stayed up and we fought to the last siren.”
While the final score was 74-1 Jules noted “the 4th Quarter was an absolutely fantastic effort. Players showed incredible persistence to keep the opposition goal-less with just 4pts to 2pts. Well done on a fantastic defensive second half.”
In a show of integration and inclusion, the team welcomed back Tara Reiter from VFL, Micka down from master’s, and Oriel up from Under 18s. The club celebrates and appreciates that so many volunteers and supporters made the early trek out to picturesque Beaconsfield. A decent drive rewarded with a sunny day, some quality football, and an inspiring bunch of players.
PLAYER AWARDS
Veronica: Tough as old nails award – you got some really hard knocks in this game and you just picked yourself up and kept going! Well done, loved your aggression to get the ball.
Why: Consistency – clean ground ball pick up even in the wet and your confidence to back yourself to run the ball out of the pack is incredible for a player who has only officially played 2 games. Well done.
Jazz: Another cracker of a game from you. Contributing in all lines today (Fwd, mid, and back), a major ball winner. Excellent defense and consistent solid performance. Also took some very hard hits and fought hard. Well done.
