VALE TONY MORRIS

Sad to report the recent passing of Tony Morris, a long-time club supporter, volunteer, and father of 2 life member sons, Terry and Brendan. Tony will be mostly remembered as a member of the Friday crew that would mark the lines, fill the fridges, cut the onions for the BBQ of a Saturday, clean all the rooms and toilets, and anything else that needed doing – before settling down for a well-deserved beer or 2!!.  The other main stayers were Ron “Geeza” Eade, John Reid (dec), and Ian “Macca” McCarty.

On the game day Tony would always be a quiet presence and would keep meticulous records in the way of statistics of every game – goals, points, possessions, best on grounds for each of the quarters, and if he was providing votes, he would write notes justifying the rationale for providing votes for that particular player.  After looking at all the other games and their scores he could work out on a Saturday evening what needed to happen in the weeks ahead for Blackburn to play finals for example.

Tony was very proud of his country of birth, Ireland.  He together with his family enjoyed many a trip back to the old country.  The most important thing to Tony was his family.  After arriving in Australia in 1959 he met and married the love of his life Mary in 1960 in Hawthorn.  Together they had four children Terry, Brendan (Butch), Dennis (deceased), and Deirdre.

On behalf of everyone at the Blackburn Football Club, we extend our sympathy and love to the entire Morris family.
